Information for People Who Cannot Afford Nursing Care
Kentucky Medicaid rules have changed. There is a limit on the amount of income that a person can have when they receive help from Medicaid for:
- care in Nursing Home, or
- care in institutional Hospice, or
- home care under the community-based waiver services program
If the person's income is more than $2022 per month (2009 amount), they will be told that they are not eligible for Medicaid unless they set up a "Qualifying Income Trust (QIT)" or "Miller Trust".

* Note that the QIT income cap listed on page 10 of this document is outdated. The amount changes every year and is calculated by multiplying the SSI amount by 3. The QIT income cap for 2009 is $2022 (3 X 674).
